When looking for an apartment, Otto and Jonny are rejected by most of the landlords. When they finally found a suitable apartment, it turns out that the old actor Conradi still lives in one room. He tries to endure his poverty with nobility and promises to move out as soon as possible. Master painter Karl Nagele helps his friends Otto and Jonny with the renovations, but is initially skeptical about the company Rentnerkommune.
