During its “Analyst Day” conference held online this Thursday, February 25, 2021, Twitter announced a plethora of new features. Among them, the arrival of paid “Super Follow” subscriptions, the launch of “communities”, pages dedicated to businesses and the auto block.
With Super Follow, pay to have access to exclusive content from your favorite twittos
In July 2020, we learned that Twitter was considering setting up paid subscriptions on its platform. After several months of reflection and development, this feature is finally official. Called “Super Follow”, it will allow users of the blue bird to charge their followers for access to additional exclusive content: bonus tweets and fleets, addition to a voice community group, special badge, new newsletters … So many advantages that may be offered for financial support.

For Twitter users, this is obviously good news. Before the Super Follow, the social network had never allowed them to derive income from their content directly. The blue bird is thus aligned with other major social platforms (Patreon, Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, GitHub) which have had similar services for some time. It remains to be seen whether Twitter users will be inclined to pay $ 4.99 per month to access exclusive content from their favorite tweeters… The future will tell.

Business pages are making their debut on Twitter
So far on Twitter, business accounts and regular user accounts made no difference. A failure that the blue bird finally corrects, with the arrival of specific pages for brands and companies. As can be seen from the screenshots presented below, these new business profiles will allow you to add an address, opening hours, as well as a direct contact button.
It should also be noted that companies will also be able to promote tweets quickly using the “Quick Promote” feature, as Facebook and Instagram already offer on their platform.

With communities, Twitter is directly inspired by Facebook groups
Twitter also announced the arrival of “Communities”, a feature that will allow users of the social network to create and join “trade fairs” intended to promote exchanges around specific areas of interest and subjects. During its presentation, the blue bird, for example, imagined communities centered on cats, plants, or even surfers.
Does that remind you of something ? It’s normal. This feature looks like a lot of Facebook “groups” which have largely contributed to the success of Mark Zuckerberg’s social network, but that’s the game… Social networks no longer hesitate to “be inspired” between them to develop their platforms, and we must admit that this feature seems particularly suited to Twitter since discussions between users are at the heart of its experience.

Auto Block, a feature to prevent online harassment
Reputed to be a social network on which harassment is rife, Twitter is leading an additional effort to eradicate this phenomenon from its platform with the arrival of the “Auto Block” feature. Once enabled on your account, this option will automatically block for you users who violate Twitter policies, while also muting those who resort to slurs, foul language, and / or hate speech.
