The Uashat mak Mani-Utenam Economic Development Corporation is very proud of Innu businesswoman Josée Leblanc and Atikuss, for the “Company of the Year” award at the Quebec Native Tourism Reconnaissance Gala on Thursday. This success shines throughout the community, according to SDEUM director Ken Rock.
“Uashat’s company has always been able to innovate to promote, preserve and perpetuate the traditional know-how of the First Nations,” says Me Rock. “Despite the difficulties of the tourism sector with the pandemic, Josée thrives on challenges in order to set up projects that will ensure international influence. Its collaboration with various recognized organizations is one of the strengths that sets it apart, ”adds the SDEUM’s tourism development agent, Serge Mckenzie.
Atikuss offers accommodation services and operates traditional craft shops on Boulevard des Montagnais in Uashat and in Old Quebec. Josée Leblanc is also planning the construction in 2022 of the first Indigenous economuseum in Canada. The project in Uashat will propose the enhancement of the artisanal creation of moccasins and the history of footwear among the First Nations.
