Publisher Sega and studio Relic Entertainment have released another hotfix for the strategy Company of Heroes 3. After the patch, the game’s executive file “lost” by 281 megabytes – this can only mean that the developers removed Denuvo protection.
Interestingly, after the update was released, gamers began to report improved optimization:
If you, like me, experienced a drop in performance after the Steel Shepherd update (30+ FPS drop and unstable gameplay on a decent machine with an AMD 5950x and RTX 3080), then you know that this made CoH3 almost unplayable.
Relic took notice and patch 1.4.1 was soon released, but unfortunately the issue was never resolved. Those of us who couldn’t play continued to wait… and today Patch 1.4.2 came out. The patch notes indicated that the performance issue remained untouched. This is disappointing to say the least. However, I decided to go in and test the game.
To my surprise, the performance issues were actually resolved! We are back to full FPS and are not experiencing any stuttering. Great smooth gameplay again.
Some fans of the game attributed the performance improvement to the removal of Denuvo. Whether this is true or not is anyone’s guess.
Company of Heroes 3 available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series.
