The idea behind Neuralink is to allow the human brain to communicate directly with a computer. In the long term, this could possibly allow paralyzed people to move their muscles again and blind people might be able to see again. The implants could also help people with diseases such as ALS and Parkinson’s or stroke victims with communication.
Neuralink was founded in 2016. After successful trials on monkeys, the company received permission last year from the American medical regulator FDA to test the technology on humans.
