There have been massive advances in cancer treatment through improved measures for cancer prevention and early detection. Nevertheless, employees in all corporate functions who are confronted with a cancer diagnosis are still affected.
Andrea Konrath from Krebshilfe Burgenland explains: “Unfortunately, returning to work after often long periods of sick leave does not always go smoothly. The disease represents a major challenge for those affected, but also for the working environment, which many entrepreneurs and colleagues often feel unable to cope with. Uncertainty when dealing with the illness often leads to speechlessness. This is humanly understandable, but it inevitably leads to a dead end.” Cancer aid has developed the “Enterprise Life!” initiative specifically for this purpose.
Economic Chamber Director Harald Schermann: “The ‘Company Life!’ initiative helps companies in the difficult phase of professional reintegration of employees with cancer. Companies are advised on the development of an individual integration plan, solution-oriented coaching discussions are held with everyone involved and any follow-up support is also part of the professional offer.”
The Burgenland Chamber of Commerce supports this initiative “Company Life!”, Director Schermann says: “I recommend taking advantage of this help, nobody wants to get sick, and even less wants them to feel excluded as a result.”
