Hamburg (dpa) – More and more women work in companies in the North German metal and electrical industry. The proportion of female employees is currently 17.7 percent, as the employers’ associations Nordmetall and AGV Nord announced on Saturday in Hamburg. That corresponds to an increase of 5 percent over the past three years. The reason for the increase is that the girls receive targeted support in the professional orientation phase.
“For years we have been supporting a large number of projects and programs that specifically bring school girls closer to the MINT area,” said Peter Golinski, Director Education and Labor Market at both associations, according to the announcement. “This long-term commitment is now bearing fruit. This is particularly noticeable with the dual students.” With this combination of studies and practical phases in the company, the proportion of women in northern Germany is just under a quarter.
On April 22nd, girls can get to know a technical profession for a day in a company at “Girl’s Day” – this year, however, due to the corona, the offers are mostly digital.
