Company from Verl plants 5,000 trees

To ensure sustainability and resource-saving use of wood as a raw material, 5,000 trees have now been planted in Bethel.

Verl/ Bielefeld (gl) – The kitchen manufacturer Nobilia processes large quantities of the valuable raw material wood every day. For this reason, a sustainable and forward-looking handling of these materials and resources is necessary.

Setting an example for Climate Week

Nobilia has been using PEFC-certified wood from sustainably managed forests since 2007, as it says in a statement. As part of the Bielefeld Climate Week, the company also set an example: employees in Bielefeld-Bethel have now planted around 5,000 new trees.

“We are certified according to the PEFC standard, which certifies that we use wood from sustainably managed forests and controlled sources,” explains Dr. Maik Schlickel, sustainability officer at Nobilia. In addition, wood waste is used for heating in the company’s own biomass plants.

100 volunteers

According to the announcement, more than 100 volunteers from Nobilia came together in the immediate vicinity of the Teutoburg Forest to take part in the large tree planting campaign. The company had previously called for a planting day in cooperation with the Bielefeld Climate Week organization.

The Nobilia employees took a shuttle bus and provided food from the production site in Verl to Bielefeld-Bethel to plant 3,500 sessile oaks and 1,500 hornbeams in the ground near the Salem house.

Sustainability is very important

“My greatest thanks go to the local Nobilians for their willingness to take part in the voluntary campaign,” says Michael Klein, Managing Director at Nobilia. “It shows that the topic of sustainability is very important to the Nobilians.” Together with the many helpers, he braved stormy weather to give something back to nature.

“We act globally, but think regionally. As a company, we would like to make a direct contribution to actively supporting sustainable projects in the region,” says Klein. As part of the campaign, Nobilia raised awareness of the need for sustainable and environmentally conscious use of wood as a material.
