The Swedish candy manufacturer Cloetta, known for Sportlife chewing gum and King Peppermint, will hold a special works council on Tuesday morning about its branch in Turnhout. On Monday evening, it appeared from a statement that the parent company wants to close its departments in Belgium (Turnhout) and in the Netherlands (Roosendaal).

“We received a very dry email from Cloetta on Monday evening,” says Jeffrey Goossens of ACV Nutrition and Services. “We are expected at a special works council at half past nine.” Goossens stated on Monday that this was a violation of the Renault law.
Cloetta – known for the Sportlife chewing gum and King peppermints – wants to build a completely new factory in the Netherlands after the closures. Most of the Belgian staff could work in the new location, Cloetta assures. About 115 people work at the Swedish candy manufacturer in Turnhout
