Companions and volunteers in sharing

Chartres. Companions and volunteers, together. Created forty-two years ago on the initiative of Secours Catholique by Nicole Gausseron, the association of Companions of Sharing held its general meeting on Thursday in Lucé under the chairmanship of Jean-Jacques Brot.

The objective of the association is to give back, through hospitality, work and community life, the dignity of the men it receives. Eighteen companions are currently welcomed at the Ermitage, in Bailleau-l’Évêque, and work in Lucé, in the workshops and sales.

These wounded by life need to rebuild themselves. Thirty volunteers are present, several times a week, to help the companions to prepare and sell the objects brought by individuals: furniture, clothes, crockery, toys and books. The greatest satisfaction of the volunteers who take care of these men is to see some of them return to a professional activity.

The association derives a large part of its income from sales which take place every other weekend to meet the needs of the companions and the maintenance of the buildings. These sales attract a wide audience: those hoping to find a rare item, those in need as well as wealthier people.

Practice. Next sales: Saturday May 28, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Monday May 30, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., rue de la Motte in the Malbrosses industrial zone in Lucé. Last sales before summer, July 2 and 3; reopening in September.
