Companies were warned that they must stop construction of the border wall • Hola News

FRONTERA

Tucson (AZ), Jan 26 (EFE News) .- All construction companies have been notified that they must stop the construction of the border wall this Wednesday, following the guidelines established by the executive order signed by President Joe Biden, confirmed this Tuesday to Efe the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).

The group specified that construction companies have already been notified of the suspension of work on all border infrastructure projects granted by the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The same day he was sworn in as president of the United States, Joe Biden signed an executive order last Wednesday suspending construction of the controversial border wall with Mexico. The order grants a seven-day grace period, which expires tomorrow, Wednesday, for construction companies to carry out the necessary preparations to halt the project.

In written statements, the USACE clarified that “under this suspension, the terms of their contracts still require contractors to maintain a safe and secure workplace, but all work on construction progress has been suspended.”

Environmental advocates reported that despite Biden’s executive order, construction of the border wall continued this weekend in parts of Arizona and Texas.

In videos that circulate on social networks, heavy machinery can be seen operating in the Guadalupe Canyon, on the Arizona border, where activists say dynamite continued to be used hours after Biden assimilated the Presidency.

The construction of the border wall became one of the symbols of the administration of former President Donald Trump. During his presidency 450 miles (720 kilometers) of wall were built along the border with Mexico.

On the other hand, USACE did not guarantee that the construction of the border wall will stop 100% tomorrow.

Biden’s executive order allows contractors to continue working should they have to do work or repairs related to the safety of the infrastructure and the site where the project was being carried out.

In other sectors in New Mexico, activists reported that construction sites were already stopped and that only piles of construction material and heavy equipment could be seen, but no workers at the site.

Activists told Efe today that they will be very vigilant that the companies comply with the date established by the executive order and that not one more meter of wall is built after tomorrow.
