Nearly 10,000 companies have failed in the second quarter of 2022. According to a study by Altares published on July 11, this represents an increase of almost 50% compared to the first quarter of 2021. « We are now approaching the levels seen in 2019, the pre-crisis reference period », said Thierry Millon, Director of Studies at Altares.
The personal service, catering and trade sectors are the most weakened. This is particularly the case of companies created during or just before the crisis (+136%). For SMEs, the thresholds exceed those of 2019, with 731 procedures opened in three months. According to the firm, more than 35,000 failures are to be expected by the end of the year. This is more than in 2021 (28,400), but still significantly less than in 2019 (52,000).
The hypothesis of a recession ruled out
For its part, the Banque de France has for the moment ruled out the hypothesis of a recession. Supply difficulties remain high in industry (59% in June) and construction (52%), details the Banque de France. Growth is also slowed byinflationsoaring prices and the closure of certain markets. “But the economy is holding up and companies are resistingconcludes Thierry Millon. We are still far from the peaks of the 2008 financial crisis which exceeded 64,000. »
To help companies cope with these difficulties, the executive is deploying new support measures. Among them, the opening of a “gas and electricity” aid counter for the most energy-intensive industrialists, or the maintenance of the support plan for emerging from the crisis.
