Companies that do not adapt to generative AI could put their business in check

Approximately four out of ten managers (44.1%) consider that those organizations that do not adapt to the new era of generative artificial intelligence (AI) could put their business in check even going so far as to condemn them to disappear. This follows from the first Generative AI barometer from the perspective of business management promoted by the Association for the Progress of Management (APD), in collaboration with the cloud provider Arsys and the Research Group in Political Economy of Innovation of the Complutense University of Madrid.

The study, of a “pioneering” nature, reveals the growing interest of companies in adapting to generative AI, as well as the challenges they face in terms of talent, privacy and control over the technology. Thus, according to the document, all that glitters is not gold, since the incorporation of this technology within organizations faces various obstacles. Among them stands out the perception of loss of control over data privacy and autonomous information management. Key sectors for the national economy, such as Agri-Food, Services, Construction or Energy, show a still lagging implementation, mainly due to budgetary limitations and the lack of technical knowledge.

The barometer, prepared between April and July 2024, captures the perspective of more than 450 Spanish senior executives on the integration of generative AI in business processes. And 84.8% of the respondents believes that generative AI offers great opportunities to optimize efficiency and personalize services, which will allow companies to better position themselves in an increasingly competitive global market. However, the report also highlights the need to overcome barriers such as investment and talent necessary to adopt this technology. In the same way, 42% of managers respondents are convinced that generative AI will have a direct impact on your business strategy in the short term.
