More than eight in ten companies say they took measures to work greener last year. Reducing energy consumption was particularly popular.
This is evident from figures from statistics agency CBS, which asked companies in industry, retail, car trade and services about sustainability.
Of those companies, 82 percent said they had greened their business operations in the past twelve months. In addition to reducing energy consumption, this also involves reducing waste and reducing harmful emissions.
Furthermore, it appears that transporters mainly invest in reducing their emissions, while catering companies want to limit their waste. Car dealers and shops are mainly concerned with reducing their energy consumption.
Of the companies that CBS asked, almost 18 percent said that they had done nothing to improve sustainability in the past year.
The companies that have not made themselves more sustainable in recent times usually did not do so because they did not have enough money for it. This is a problem, especially for smaller companies. Other companies argue that it yields too little for them.
