Companies in Essen have a hard time finding trainees

In the last year of training, there were many more vacant training places in Essen than in the previous year. The agency wants to change it.

Big problems when looking for interns in Essen

About 600 training places were not filled in Essen this year. This is significantly more jobs than in previous years and 13% more than in the previous year. In its assessment of the training market, the Employment Agency also stated that around 400 young people are still looking for an apprenticeship. The employment agency therefore hopes that many young people can still apply to companies for training positions, even if the training year is statistically over. It is not too late to choose your future career. The so-called “match problem” between training vacancies and young people seeking training needs to be addressed as quickly as possible, explained the Berliner Platz Employment Agency.

The Essen employment agency initiates training formats

According to the employment agency, the number of vacancies here in Essen was still over 900 in September and October, which is why efforts were made to bring young people and companies closer together at events. These events have been successful and will continue next year. There is also an online training control, for example, where young people are informed about training professions.

“Since the end of August we have been able to fill 333 training vacancies and thus give 333 young people perspective. A result that clearly shows that being close to young people and proclaiming the message several times: there is still room for improvement was the right thing to do ”, explains Andrea Demler, managing director of Meal’s employment agency.

The reason given by the NRW employment agency for the lack of trainees is that fewer pupils leave school and they are more likely to decide to repeat the school year. At the start of the corona pandemic, many companies had fewer advertised apprenticeships here in Essen. Recently, however, there had been more vacancies for apprenticeships.
