One in three companies in the region rate the effects on their competitiveness negatively and sees this as a major risk. Companies are also considering limiting their production or moving abroad. The President of the Dortmund Chamber of Commerce believes that there is a threat of creeping deindustrialization.

Training year 2024/25 in Dortmund starts with vacant training places

The 2024/25 training year is starting in Dortmund. Young people’s chances of getting a training position are generally very good, and applications are still possible without any problems. This is reported by the Dortmund Chamber of Industry and Commerce. The Dortmund Chamber of Industry and Commerce alone still has over 360 vacant training positions in its apprenticeship exchange. The training market is looking mixed: In industry, trade and the service sector, there are fewer new training contracts compared to 2023: the number of new training contracts fell by 3.4 percent to 3,482 compared to the previous year (2023: 3,603). However, according to the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, catch-up effects from the time of the corona pandemic were also noticeable last year. The current figures are 3.9 percent higher than in 2019 (3,352).
