The streets of poor neighborhoods with a population of 100,000 in the heart of Sao Paulo were until recently considered by shipping companies to be impenetrable and too dangerous, and blocked deliveries to local area codes.
Givanildo Pereira Bastos, a 21-year-old native, changed the situation here. He founded the company Favela expres, which goes beyond the courage or willingness of others. “We don’t want two Brazil. We want to live in one Brazil, where favel residents have the same rights as someone who lives in a wealthy neighborhood, ”he explained his motivation for starting a company.
Packages from e-shops are taken over in the distribution center on the border of the district. Ninety employees sort and deliver tuk-tuks, and sometimes carry them on foot, down alleys and stairs.
Profit model
The express already operates in several other Brazilian cities. The employees know the territory well, they are said to be proud and loyal.
Help is, though not selfless. The company’s founder found a model that works. “We had no idea what the consumption of favelas consumed from online stores. In Paraisopolis alone, we make around eight hundred deliveries every day, “said Bastos.
Inequality is disappearing slowly, but it is disappearing. Favela Paraisopolis is thus less excluded today than at the beginning of the pandemic.
