Commuting Time and Depressive Symptoms: Korean Study Shows a Correlation

In one study, Korean researchers from Inha University Hospital worked on the link between commuting time and depressive symptoms.

Published in the ‘Journal of Transport & Health’, the study by Korean researchers shows a correlation between depressive symptoms and the length of commuting time. They note that exceeding one hour of daily travel would increase the chances of experiencing depressive symptoms by 16%.

In Korea, scientists followed more than 23,000 workers aged 20 to 59, looking at factors such as gender, age, education level, income, region, marital status, occupation, or even weekly working time.

This study found that individuals spending more than 1 hour per day traveling to and from work are 1.16 times more likely to suffer from depression than those who have a daily commute of less than 30 minutes.
