The educational community will hold a mural and other awareness activities on Saturday.
Families and members of the cooperative of the Vocational Institute of Art (IVA)located in the Parque Chacabuco neighborhood of Buenos Aires, will make a mural this Saturday to return to claim the government of the City of Buenos Aires, as it has done for several years, to enable the use of a space belonging to the establishment, which was cleaned of the asbestos that was on their roofs and that is unoccupied.
“On Saturday at 4:00 p.m. we are waiting for you at Curapaligue 1026, to make a mural with a snack, mateada and activities and make visible the serious situation in which the usurped room is located”indicates a flyer made by the VAT families, which they will begin to distribute on social networks.
For several months, families, teachers and members of the VAT cooperative have been demanding the use of a space that was historically occupied by a civil association but which belongs to that educational institute.
According to Cooperator sources, It is a sector of 700 square metersroofed that “is within the VAT, it is part of the cadastral plan, its accesses and windows overlook the patio and it is in perfect building conditions to be used.”
For twenty years, the community has been demanding its use and the cleaning of asbestos from its roofs.
Through the Ombudsman’s Office, they managed to get the General Directorate of Artistic Education of the Buenos Aires government (DGeART) to finally remove the asbestos and that the civil association, which occupied that space, released the installation.
The families told Télam that “VAT needs to use that room to expand the vacancy of the Garden and, in addition, it does not have a space for events, artistic manifestations, training, exhibition of worksor to be at breaks when it rains or is very cold, a place that neither has any of the three venues”.
According to what they said, “currently the asbestos ceiling was completely removed, and air studies certify that it is completely free of contaminants, but the DGeART seems to have the intention of allocating the space for other purposes, does not allow entry and gives elusive answers to our queries”.
DGeART sources informed Télam in writing that “the building is in a state that still does not allow formulating a plan or design for its future use and the costs that this would imply”.
In turn, they explained again that the asbestos was removed at the beginning of this year and that it was done through a public tender that takes several stages: removal, destruction of asbestos and, finally, construction of the ceiling.
Although the removal tasks were completed, the sources indicated that the property “continues to be closed for its refurbishment.”
