Three men who illegally dug up parts of a WWII plane in Meerlo, Limburg, have been sentenced to civil service by the court.

The three took a British Spitfire above ground four years ago without a permit. They used large equipment, such as an excavator.

At the spot where the fighter plane crashed in 1944, they dug a hole two meters deep. Among other things they stole a parachute, a life jacket and parts of an engine block.

The highest punishment is for the man who took the lead, he writes 1 Limburg. She received 100 hours of community service and a suspended prison sentence of 1 month. The other two received 80 hours of community service.
