Community service demanded against officer for beating suspect with baton | Inland

The officer was involved in the arrest of the 21-year-old man on January 18, 2020, who was under the influence of drugs and who had fled a police car after a chase. He had already been sprayed in the face with pepper spray but continued to resist. Two officers were trying to pull the man out of the police car when the 52-year-old officer arrived and used his baton. The officer hit the suspect about 13 times in quick succession. First on the lower body, but later also on the upper body and once on the head.

The Public Prosecution sees the violence as an attempt at manslaughter. The use of violence was disproportionate according to the Public Prosecution Service. “The suspect has gone too far in his powers,” argued the public prosecutor.

The verdict is in two weeks
