Community Honors Life of 9-Year-Old Bronx Resident Murdered in the Dominican Republic

Through an altar with messages of love, balloons and white flowers, the Mount Hope community honors the life of little Gioser Luis Féliz, a Bronx resident murdered in the Dominican Republic last Wednesday.

Sergio Luis Féliz, father of the minor, tells what he experienced in the moments before the fatal outcome:

“From the airport because we passed the toll and they jumped in front of us so that one of us would get to one side and we didn’t stop and continue and…they shoot us. I saw it, and when I looked back, I saw all the blood.”

The authorities of the Dominican Republic are investigating the homicide of the 9-year-old boy, who had just landed on the island with his father Sergio Luis Féliz, 32, and his romantic partner, for what would be a week’s vacation.

According to the police in that country, after leaving the airport, several men followed the couple and the child from a Hyundai, who were in a rented car. They tried to intercept them and when they didn’t stop, they started shooting at them. The boy received a bullet to the head, causing his death upon arrival at the hospital.

So far, six people have been arrested and several others are being questioned, while authorities investigate the

causes that led to the shooting.

According to the Dominican police, the first five people apprehended admitted their participation in the crime, and all are residents of Santiago de los Caballeros.

It was also established that two of the captured people know the child’s father. Even residents of the sector confirmed to us that the sixth person arrested, named Tomás Peña Morel or ‘Tomacito’, was very close to the father of the minor.

Aracelly Vélez, a neighbor of the sector explains:

“My friend tells me, look, I was following him in the car and they killed the child. And I say to him, ‘but who, who?’, ‘The one with the many clothes’…

And I said: ‘Oh yes, he is my friend. Oh yes, what a pain. And more pain is that he is his friend.”

On the other hand, Luis Pelegrín, a neighbor of the sector remembers: “Whenever his father brought him here, he played with all of us, a beautiful boy at heart, but unfortunate, that happened. I am the father of a family and that is abuse, how are they going to deal with the life of a child? Children should be sacred.”

“I was surprised, I was surprised. I first saw it on the news from Santo Domingo. Later I realize that it is right here, around the corner from my house”, ends by saying Renzo Fernández, a neighbor of the boy’s family in the Bronx.
