Community leaders, family and friends of Alexis Martinez held a vigil in memory of the police officer in a case being investigated as a possible murder-suicide at the hands of her father.
The event took place Thursday night in front of Martinez’s home in the Soundview section of the Bronx.

The Police Commissioner, Edwar Caban, put a message on social networks about Martínez.
“Our hearts are heavy as we honor our fallen brother, Police Officer Alexis Martinez, who was tragically taken from us today. We stand with his family and fellow officers as they deal with this unspeakable loss. Please keep our officer and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers,” the commissioner wrote.

Meanwhile, the police continue to investigate the case and seek to determine the motivation.
The uniformed woman says that Martínez was off duty when he was shot Wednesday afternoon by his father, who later committed suicide.
