Residents of nearby cities donated drinks for the members participating in the ‘2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree’, where heat-related illnesses appeared one after another in the heat wave.
According to Gunsan Story, a Facebook community in Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do on the 5th, Gunsan citizens have been operating the ‘Jamboree Gunsan Well’ since the previous day (4th).
The Gunsan Story side said, “They are guests at my house, but we have to spend them full even if we don’t have anything prepared. “Isn’t it our true heart to send warm and full meals to guests who have come a long way?” he said.
The Jamboree Gunsan Well side delivered 1,000 bottles of ice water and 500 bottles of ionic beverage to the Jamboree site, and from this day, 1,000 bottles of ice water and 600 bottles of ionic beverage are provided every day. ‘Gunsan Well’ is a project that distributes bottled water for free to citizens who are vulnerable to heat during July and August, and since 2017, members of Gunsan Story have voluntarily participated. The Gunsan Story side decided to operate the ‘Jamboree Gunsan Well’ for six days for the members participating in the Jamboree in the heat wave.
Up until this day, the amount raised to the Jamboree Gunsan Well was 9.75 million won, and 164 people, including small businesses and individuals in downtown Gunsan, participated. It is reported that citizens are voluntarily participating in the delivery service to deliver drinks twice a day.
A citizen who participated in the volunteer service revealed the delivery of ice water and ionic beverages in a refrigerated truck and said, “I feel sorry for the adults. This is the only thing I can do right now,” he wrote, and a video released to Gunsan Story showed young students participating in delivery service.
In addition, the Buan-gun Parents’ Association, members of Haseo Elementary School, the School Management Committee, the Regional Development Council, and the Righteous Living Movement Council secured 40,000 bottles of ice water and delivered them to the Jamboree members.
Meanwhile, while the British delegation left the Jamboree camp and retired early, the US and Singapore also decided to withdraw early. However, delegations from several countries, including Germany and Sweden, decided to remain, and Prime Minister Han Deok-soo announced that day, “As a result of the meeting of delegations from each country, we decided to continue the competition without stopping.”
