COMMUNICATE # 298 – Nacional FM

The Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, carried out this Saturday a tour of the facilities of the Instituto Superior Especializado del Este (ITSE), located in Tocumen, which will be readjusted for the care of moderate COVID-19 patients.

The adjustments are carried out in the ITSE gym, which has a capacity for 114 beds divided into 95 rooms and 19 in the Respiratory Care Unit (UCRE).

The works began this Saturday, early for the construction of the hospitalization rooms and the UCRE.

The facility will also have a nursing station, nursing warehouse, medical-surgical warehouse, administrative area, general warehouse, pharmacy, nutrition, rest area for health personnel, among other facilities.

It is an investment made by the National Government through the Ministry of Health (MINSA), valued at 1.3 million balboas and which in turn will have the furniture and equipment necessary to provide care to patients affected by COVID-19 and thus reinforcing the installed capacity in the province of Panama.

During the tour, the Minister of Health was accompanied by the national director of Provision of Services, Yelkis Gill, the national director of Infrastructure Carlos Candanedo, and the personnel of the construction company that is carrying out the work.

On the other hand, the minister explained that the restriction on mobility as of this Monday, 21 only applies to purchases, but not to attend work and reiterated that the distribution between men and women is as follows way: Monday 21 and Wednesday 23, women; Tuesday 22 and Thursday 24, men.

In the following week, the distribution by gender is as follows: Monday 28th and Wednesday 30th for women; while, on Tuesday 29 and Thursday 31 men, said Minister Sucre.

Epidemiological report

In the world, 42,807,246 recovered people are registered, while a total of 75,841,837 accumulated positive cases for COVID-19 and 1,687,339 deaths are added for a fatality percentage of 2.2%.

For today, Saturday, December 19, in Panama, there are 171,745 recovered patients, 3,274 new positive cases, for a cumulative total of 209,584.
To date, 17,484 tests have been applied, for a positivity percentage of 18.7% and 23 new deaths have been registered, totaling 3,527 accumulated and a fatality of 1.7%.

Active cases total 34,312. In home isolation, 32,597 people are reported, of which 31,915 are at home and 682 in hotels. There are 1,715 hospitalized and 1,533 of them are in the ward and 182 are in the ICU.
