Common Cold Symptoms and Related Diseases: Don’t Underestimate Colds

Jakarta

Colds are certainly no stranger to us. In fact, maybe we all have felt it. For example, when we have the flu, have a slight fever, or feel achy, we immediately estimate that it is a symptom of a cold.

But is it true that the symptoms that we often feel are due to colds? Because the symptoms of colds can actually be a sign or symptom of another, more serious illness.

For that, don’t underestimate colds, especially if they don’t heal. See the explanation below to find out the common symptoms of colds and which diseases are related to cold symptoms.

Colds are actually unknown in the medical world. Only Indonesians give cold names for some of the symptoms.

According to the Big Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI), catching a cold means having a fever. Chills means feeling unwell due to unwell or a slight fever.

According to medical doctors, the symptoms of colds can vary. On the Sawahlunto Hospital website, colds are defined as aerophagia or a condition when a lot of air enters the body, perhaps due to food, drink, talking a lot, and laughing a lot.

In the Journal of Humanities, Gadjah Mada University, Vol. 23, No. October 3, 2011, catching a cold is defined as the common cold or the common cold. The causes include rain or frequent exposure to the wind.

Cold Symptoms

According to the website of the Demang Sepulau Raya Hospital, colds are not a specific disease. But colds are a collection of symptoms that are usually associated with cold weather or air.

Symptoms of a cold include the following:

Nasal congestion, runny nose, or flu Headache Chills or chills Muscle tension or body aches Flatulence, burping a lot, farting a lot Body feeling tired Fever

Diseases Related to Cold Symptoms

Colds can generally heal on their own with plenty of rest and adequate nutritional intake. Therefore, colds are often considered trivial.

But catching a cold can also be an indication of a more serious illness. Reporting from the website of the Ministry of Health and the Textbook of Health Sciences (2019) by Umar Zein and Emir El Newi, here are some diseases related to colds:

1. Flatulence

One of the symptoms of a cold is flatulence because there is wind or gas that gathers in the stomach unnaturally. This can make the stomach feel hard and make activities uncomfortable.

2. Diarrhea

One of the causes of colds is a virus. Viruses produce toxins that can enter the digestive tract, causing intestinal function to be disrupted. This can cause diarrhea. Diarrhea must also be treated immediately because it can deplete body fluids.

3. Stomach

Symptoms of flatulence when you catch a cold can cause nausea to vomiting. However, these symptoms may not be a cold, but an ulcer.

4. Back Pain

Viral toxins may also cause muscle and bone pain, which is often also called bone flu. The feeling of soreness can also be due to gas pressing on the back nerves. If left untreated, it can become a more serious disease.

5. Dengue Fever and Hepatitis

People who have dengue fever or hepatitis often experience cold symptoms first, especially fever. But this pain does not go away.

If left untreated, dengue fever and hepatitis may become severe and cause death.

6. Sitting Wind and Coronary Heart

Another serious disease is angina or coronary heart disease. The symptoms are similar to colds, especially tightness in the chest accompanied by sweat. Of course this must be immediately handled by the medical team so as not to cause death.

Those were the various symptoms of colds, ranging from flu, aches, to fever. Do not underestimate colds because it might be an indication of a serious illness.
