Commitment to excellence: SOFITEX adopts a quality policy

Burkina Faso Textile Firm Embraces Quality and Sustainability in Bold Reimagining

Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso – In a move aimed at revitalizing its position in the global textile market, the Burkinabé Textile Fiber Company (SOFITEX) has adopted a comprehensive Quality, Hygiene, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSSE) management system.

On December 2, 2024, SOFITEX General Director Bonossokoun Arsène Somda formally unveiled this ambitious initiative with the signing of a company-wide charter in Bobo-Dioulasso. The move signals a significant shift towards prioritizing quality, safety, and environmental responsibility throughout the company’s operations.

"We must satisfy the customer, remain competitive, facilitate the work of our employees, and comply with environmental regulations," said Somda, emphasizing the driving forces behind the new policy.

The QHSSE system is not just a compliance measure, according to Dr. Thomas Compaoré, a prominent industry voice. "The competitiveness of companies today is not only measured by their economic performance, but also by their ability to guarantee the quality of their products, to ensure the safety and health of their employees and to protect the environment."

He lauded SOFITEX for recognizing this strategic opportunity, stating that the QHSSE system allows the company to “respond to the challenges of international competitiveness, optimize its economic and operational performance, strengthen its resilience against threats and emergencies, while reinforcing its image as a responsible and stable player.”

Implementing the QHSSE system marks a major organizational shift for SOFITEX. Dr. Compaoré acknowledged the challenges inherent in this transformation: "This approach goes beyond ‘simple compliance’ with regulatory requirements. It means an internal organization and evolution of practices, behaviors, and responsibilities at all levels of the company."

Somda shared his vision: "In 2029, we aim to be a leader in Africa in the production and processing of cotton fibers." This bold goal underscores the company’s commitment to achieving sustainable growth by integrating quality, safety, and environmental considerations into its very core.

This commitment to sustainability resonates with a global audience increasingly conscious of the ethical and environmental impact of production processes. SOFITEX’s initiative could serve as a model for other textile companies seeking to balance profitability with responsible practices in a increasingly competitive global market.
