For the Polish government, the European billions come very conveniently. The country has received many refugees from neighboring Ukraine, which costs money. Moreover, the Poles are also feeling the sharp rise in prices. If the government can use the money to keep citizens happy, it will be beneficial in the elections that are already next year.
At the same time, the opposition and critical judges in Poland say that the adjustments are only feints. That the government continues to influence the judiciary. It is true that the disciplinary chamber is intended to disappear, but according to them a new chamber will be created in its place. With a different name, but with the same approach. And they are not counting on critical Polish judges who were previously fired, suddenly being able to return to work. The concern is that the Polish government will now celebrate the European Commission’s move as evidence of weakness.
