Commission IX Appreciates the Application of Wolbachia to Suppress DHF Cases in Sleman

Suara.com – Vice Chairman Commission IX DPR RI, Ansory Siregar appreciates the application of the Wolbachia Method to reduce the transmission rate dengue cases in Sleman Regency. Considering that dengue fever caused by the dengue virus has the potential to become a double burdened of disease during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Wolbachia comes from natural bacteria found in 60 percent of insects. Wolbachia bacteria present in the body of the aedes aegypti mosquito are spread through the mating of Wolbachia mosquitoes with local mosquitoes. Thus, it is hoped that it will protect the community from continuous transmission of DHF,” said Ansory, while leading the Committee IX of the House of Representatives’ Commission IX Kunspek Team to Sleman Regency, DI Yogyakarta, Thursday (9/9/2021).

The PKS Faction legislator supports the Wolbachia method, which is an innovation in the DHF control program. This is also in line with the national strategy for combating DHF 2021-2025. Not only in Sleman, it is hoped that the Wolbachia method can also be applied in other areas.

“The results have been published in the New England Journal of Medicine and show that the Wolbachia Application for the Elimination of Dengue (AWED) is effective in reducing 77.1 percent of dengue cases and reducing the need for hospital care (inpatient) by 86.2 percent. This technology is also proven to be effective, safe and environmentally friendly,” added Ansory.

On the same occasion, Sleman Regent Kustini Sri Purnomo said, the grand launching of the Si Wolly Comfortable Program (Wolbachia Nyamuk Safe Preventing DHF in Sleman) had been carried out on May 21, 2021, considering that cases of dengue fever in Sleman in the previous year reached 810 cases with the death of two people. .

“Judging from the cases per sub-district in 2020, the highest sub-districts of dengue cases were Prambanan with 120 cases, Gamping sub-district 117 cases, Mlati 104 cases, Godean 95 cases and Ngaglik 82 cases. With this method, it is hoped that this method can suppress dengue cases in Sleman, “said Kustini.

On that occasion, Commission IX of the DPR RI also symbolically handed over assistance from the Ministry of Health which was the aspiration of Commission IX of the DPR for the DIY Province, namely in the form of 40 electric rackets, 24 liters of mosquito insecticide, additional allocation of 30,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine and 50,000 sets of antigen. .
