The protest of the residents did not help: Winterthur said yes to the Eichwaldhof design plan.
Uniform, compact, modern and even handsome: along its distinctive, plane tree-lined axis of incidence, the city is getting a new quarter with the “Eichwaldhof” with 340 “affordable” apartments. The benefits and added value are undisputed. First, because there is a latent housing shortage in Winterthur. And secondly, because today’s settlement is ripe for demolition.
The fact that the inconvenient slalom approach through their quarters and that there is a risk of increased traffic was too blatant a blemish for the residents. They fought vigorously and louder and louder, but ultimately unsuccessfully. Too often one argued in a vacuum and with blanket accusations. The proponents, however, were able to counter with the Building and Planning Act, among other things. This means: Where possible, a district in the area of important public roads must be developed from the rear. A principle that the canton interprets strictly, as confirmed there. All of this may sound technocratic, but it is relatively clear and therefore credible.
