You probably know the feeling when you watch the movie, the subtitles jump in and you keep thinking about what you saw. A film that will completely blow you away. Matrix Resurrections (read a review on iDNES.cz) does not belong to this category. And according to the evaluation, there are more of us. Instead of a lot of questions, there was a huge disappointment. And then nothing, empty.
I’m not saying Matrix Resurrections is landfilled. But from the series, the first part of which popularized the bullet-time effect and had a tremendous impact on popular culture, I simply expect more than just being watchable. The first Matrix had an overlap, whether it was choreography, influence on video games, a lot of books were published, people speculated about theories. After all, even today, a group of physicists whether we do not live in the matrix.

Matrix Resurrections doesn’t have any. The introductory critique of Hollywood and today’s way of life is quite amusing and does not go beyond the target, but at the same time it seems completely banal and ridiculous and inappropriate. At the moment, I had no idea that Matrix Resurrections had nothing else up his sleeve. The next two thirds of the film are just places of the self-giving stealers of the number one with a love story without a single surprise or any interesting twist.
When I remembered the film a few days later, my mind wasn’t thinking about what had happened in the Matrix world, but what the Matrix Resurrections should have looked like. So: What should the “right” sequel to The Matrix look like?
I don’t know.
But I know what it shouldn’t look like. Today, I don’t care if it’s the story of Nea and Trinity and if it’s played by Keanu Reeves. Like John Wick, he’s divine, like Neo, after twenty years, he seemed pretty plank and, because of the script, also like a jerk, even in parts where he didn’t have to act like a jerk anymore. It shouldn’t even act as a parody or steal from itself. I shouldn’t say that I’m watching a low-budget TV series, even if it’s part of that “critical message.” It should retain the choreography and visual side of the trilogy. It should be taken deadly seriously as number one. But most importantly: it should blow me up at least half the way the number one did.
I have a clearer idea of games. From time to time I still remember the MMORPG The Matrix Online from 2005, which ended four years after its release due to lack of interest, but I enjoyed wandering in it for a while. I would be tempted to experience something like this today, in a modern form.

It is more likely that Matrix Resurrections will be commercially successful, more like an action-packed style Enter the Matrix (2003), but why not. Kung fu fights and time-slowing skirmishes still sound like good fun. I would also like a tactical action in style Gears Tacticswhich emphasized the faster concept of battles. We would undertake expeditions to the Matrix and perform various missions.
The world of the Matrix has the advantage of being attractive in itself. There are endless possibilities. However, someone skilled has to take them on, and unfortunately Lana Wachowská is no longer. In the case of games, it depends on the budget and the decision whether it should be a good game at all, or just another piece of merchandise for mugs, T-shirts and covers for the iPhone.
