Finally: 15 degrees and more, bright sunshine. The mood rises, so does the urge to go outside. Anyone who was out on the weekend could see it: People poured into the open, enjoying the warmth, the air and a little feeling of freedom. You can even smell it, in many places the grill is taken out of the shed and a few sausages are placed on the grill. After a long dry spell – lockdown and winter weather – that feels good. It is an easy-to-understand mechanism and, in principle, everyone can use it.
But: This feeling leads to being careless. Friends call who want to meet in a larger group. You meet others while walking and are close to a few families. And at the same time you can hear calls from almost all areas of life and business for more and faster relaxation. Everything understandable.
Spring weather in the city center: Nuremberg residents enjoy the sun
Full of sun in Franconia: Despite lockdowns, the people of Nuremberg moved to the city center on the first spring weekend of the year. In the city, people sunbathed on benches, at the castle or on the bridges.

But it is recommended to take a look at the current Corona numbers: The seven-day incidence is rising slightly again, so far only for the second day in a row, but experts fear the trend will manifest itself. The R value is 1.07, the highest value in several weeks. This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 107 more people. This may be due to the corona mutations: According to Mayor Simone Lange (SPD), almost only infections with variant B.1.1.7, the more contagious British mutation, are found in Flensburg. In other places, too, it already accounts for over 20 percent of the cases – the proportion is growing rapidly.
The prospects are not bad at all
A more lax approach to the corona restrictions or potential easing is fuel in the fire. Our perspective is not bad at all, as one would like to think now. On the contrary: According to initial results from Israel, the vaccine from Biontech should also effectively prevent virus transmission. At the same time, it also seems to work with the mutations, albeit less well with the South African variant. But the development of an updated mRNA vaccine is already in full swing at the manufacturers – whether at Biontech or AstraZeneca, GSK and CureVac.
New Corona resolutions: Hairdressers are allowed to open, shops are not yet
In order to keep the number of infections under control despite the spread of new virus variants, the federal and state governments agreed on further measures on Wednesday. The lockdown is extended, but there are still some changes. The rules at a glance.

All of this means that herd immunity is within reach. Next autumn and next winter will not be as gloomy and lonely as it was in 2020/21. It can even go back to normal. Maybe you can do that in summer.
As hard as it is now for many, we still have to be patient. We can enjoy the nice weather, sit on the terrace or in the park. Meet with another household (or a person) according to the Corona rules. We can go for a walk or stroll through the city. But please always remember: keep your distance, observe hygiene and wear a mask in everyday life.
