JAKARTA – Memorial ceremony 75th Anniversary (HUT) of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) which was held in the courtyard of the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, yesterday, felt different from previous years. In the midst of the corona virus (Covid-19) pandemic, the ceremony was simple without being as frenetic as last year.

What is most pronounced is the atmosphere in the Palace courtyard which in previous years was always filled with invitations and state guests, now only a few people attended. In fact, the flag raising officer was very minimalist, only three people. Invitations are also limited, both ambassadors of friendly countries and other national figures. In total, only 14 ceremony participants were present at the podium of honor.

The former presidents and vice presidents (vice presidents) who were usually invited to the Palace only attended the ceremony virtually from their respective residences.

Although the list of participants in the ceremony at the Merdeka Palace was limited, the Palace invited the public to participate in the virtual ceremony by distributing 17,845 invitations. This figure broke the world record as the most online ceremony participant in the world and received an award from the Indonesian World Records Museum (Muri). “This record has never happened in Persada Nusantara, namely the RI Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony online by the most participants, as well as the first to be done in history,” said the founder of Muri, Jaya Suprana, yesterday.

If you look back at the last year’s Proclamation ceremony, it is certainly not comparable to this year. Last year it was held very lively and was attended by many people. Excitement is also felt before the ceremony begins, when various art performances are displayed to entertain the invited guests.

However, the lackluster atmosphere of the effort at the Merdeka Palace does not mean that it has lost its meaning. In fact, the ceremony participants who attended looked more solemn and felt serene. The uniqueness is also evident because the ceremony participants wore traditional Indonesian clothing complete with masks according to health protocols.

The presence of invited guests virtually gave a new color to the ceremony this time. The guests were still entertained by several Indonesian artists virtually by Tiara Andini, Raisa, and Lyodra Ginting. Those who participated at home also dressed in traditional clothing even though they were present virtually. (Also read: Build the longest toll road in Indonesia, Hutama Karya uses local products)

Custom President’s clothes

As in previous years, one that did not change at the memorial service HUT ke-75 RI is a tradition of wearing traditional Indonesian clothing. This tradition, which was started by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), is still being carried out even though the independence commemoration ceremony was held on a limited basis due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

If in 2029 the President wore traditional Klungkung, Bali clothes, this year Jokowi wore traditional clothes from South Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. The cloth worn with a red Kaif-chained nunkolo pattern signifies the courage of the men. This motif has been modified from the shape of a rhombus (geometric motif) with a middle stem which means water source. While the edges are jagged, symbolizing the topography of the hilly and winding area.

The head of state’s dress is also equipped with accessories in the form of woven fabrics and headbands as well as protectors that are a sign of the greatness of the king or crown. Meanwhile, the Vice President) Ma’ruf Amin and his wife also looked compact wearing traditional Malay clothes. (Also read: Putin claims he is ready to send Russian soldiers to Belarus)

Among a number of honored guests who attended, the Speaker of the DPR Puan Maharani stole the attention by appearing wearing the Tengkuluk, a traditional head covering worn by Jambi women combined with a bright red dress.

Meanwhile, the night before the peak of the warning HUT ke-75 RI, President Jokowi led the ceremony of honor and sacred meditation at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery. At the ceremony which was held at exactly 00.00 WIB, Jokowi expressed his highest respect for the 10,102 heroes who have served and fought for Indonesia’s happiness.

“Likewise heroes whose names and places are not known, in cities, hamlets, on mountain slopes, in canyon valleys, and at the bottom of the ocean,” said Jokowi.

On that occasion, the Head of State also expressed the utmost respect for the pleasure, sincerity, and purity of the sacrifices of the heroes in serving the struggle for the happiness of the nation and the nation. (See the video: Red and White Meatballs Welcoming Independence)

On the other hand, even though he was not present at the ceremony at the Merdeka Palace, the 6th president of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) said that at the moment of commemoration of the Independence Day during the pandemic this time, he invited all elements of society to unite and remain optimistic in facing the crisis.

“We must remain united and optimistic (tis). Because in time, believe the storm will pass. The important thing is that we remain united, the government leads, guides and helps the people, while the people fully support their government while carrying out their obligations, “said SBY.
