Commemorating the World Day for the Eradication of Poverty 2023: Decent Work, Social Protection, and Human Dignity

One more year since 1992, the year the UN proclaimed it, October 17 is commemorated as the world day for the eradication of poverty.

The motto of this year 2023 is “Decent work and social protection for the dignity of people” that advocates universal access to decent work and social protection as a means to defend the human dignity of all. In addition, it points out decent work as a crucial tool to empower people, the need to provide safe conditions to do it and guarantee fair wages; recognize the inherent value and humanity of all workers.

The dignity of the human being is not only a fundamental right in itself, but also constitutes the basis of the rest of the other fundamental rights. The fact of being a person is already closely linked to his dignity.

This day also serves to call on political leaders and policymakers to use human dignity as a guiding compass in all decision-making processes, to ensure the advancement of fundamental human rights and social justice above the pursuit of business profits.

Meeting Point, a platform of entities in Teruel that works in development cooperation, formed by ACCION SOLIDARIA ARAGONESA (ASA), CÁRITAS, COVIDE, CRUZ ROJA, ECOSOL, CEPAIM FOUNDATION, SAN EZEQUIEL MORENO FOUNDATION and MANOS UNIDAS, wants to actively participate in the dissemination of this very important and necessary initiative, that is why we have prepared several activities to make known the reality of poverty in our days and thus sensitize the population to act.
