PYONGYANGNorth Korea (North Korea) forced its people to carry out 11 days of mourning to commemorate 10 years of the death of former Leader Kim Jong-il on December 17, 2021.

Sources in the country told Radio Free Asia (RFA) that the North Korean government forbade laughing, drinking or drinking, shopping and recreation during the 11-day mourning period.

Kim Jong-il succeeded his father, North Korean founder Kim Il-sung, when Kim Il-sung died in 1994. Kim Jong-il ruled the country until his own death in 2011, and was succeeded by his son, current leader Kim Jong-un.
