The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim tells the prequel to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Now there is the US start date and a first concept picture.
It’s a happy time for “The Lord of the Rings” fans: Not only is the series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” starting on Amazon Prime Video in 2022, there is also another Middle-earth movie, on Something to look forward to: The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim is an anime that, unsurprisingly, will be about the horsemen from Rohan known from the Peter Jackson films.
Studio Warner has now announced the US release date for “The War Of The Rohirrim”: April 12, 2024 is the day.
So far there is neither an official title for Germany (probably it will be “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim”) nor a start date. However, Warner has scheduled an “Untitled Newline Event Film” for April 11, 2024 – that should be the new “Lord of the Rings” movie (New Line Cinema belongs to Warner and already has the “Lord of the Rings” – and The Hobbit movies co-produced).
This is “The War Of The Rohirrim”
Set approximately 200 years before The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim revolves around Helm Hammerhand, then King of Rohan. It is also said to be about the construction of Helm’s Deep, the fortress that is at the center of a massive siege in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.
The name “Helm’s Klamm” already reveals that the fortress is named after King Helm, but it was actually built long before that. Also, in The Two Towers we see (and hear!) the horn of Helm Hammerhand, which Gimli blows into.
The first image for “The War Of The Rohirrim”, which the US industry magazine Variety published exclusively is only a concept image, but it shows that the look will be pretty close to the “Lord of the Rings” films. Among other things, we see one of the Mûmakil, the giant elephant-like creatures that the warriors of Harad ride into battle in the Lord of the Rings films.
Apparently, Helm also has to compete with the Haradrim. However, his main opponents in JRR Tolkien’s original were the Dunlendings, who originally inhabited Rohan territory and repeatedly clashed with the Rohirrim. Dunlendings have also appeared in The Lord of the Rings movies, where they are recruited by the sorcerer Saruman to ravage Rohan.
It will be a while before we experience all of this in the cinema. After all: “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” starts on September 2, 2022 on Amazon Prime Video.
