“Summer Rebels” was nominated for several children’s and youth film awards and offers music by a current chart topper. Today we have the German trailer premiere for the humorous grandpa-grandchildren drama:
Jonas’ (Elias Vyskocil) father has died and nothing has been the same since then. At home there is only trouble and that’s why the boy is longingly waiting for the summer vacation. Then he can finally go back to Slovakia to see his cool grandpa Bernard (Pavel Novy). Unfortunately, Bernard has also lost a loved one, namely his wife.
Jonas realizes that the grief has left its mark on his grandfather’s house too: Since the death of his grandmother, the once cheerful grandpa has been constantly in a bad mood. After all, Jonas becomes friends with Alex (Liana Pavlikova), who lives next door. Together they forge a plan: To help Jonas Grandpa, they want to find him a job, a wife or at least a new hobby. But their well-intentioned ideas often backfire …
At first glance, “Sommer-Rebellen” is somewhat reminiscent of the Til Schweiger film “Honey in Your Head” (after all, it’s about a grandchild who wants to help his grandfather regain the joy of life). But judging by the trailer, the focus here is primarily on child adventures and friendship – and not the arguments and marital crises between adults, which were also a big part of the Schweiger hit movie.

“Summer Rebels” is a film for the whole family that has already been nominated several times for awards in the field of children’s and youth films, for example for best feature film at the Goldener Spatz 2020.
The music in the trailer, which can also be heard in the film itself, comes from songwriter Dota, among others, who landed at number 7 in the German charts this week with her new album “We call you, Galaktika”.
Summer Rebels comes to German cinemas on August 12, 2021.
