After Sony Interactive Entertainment unveiled further details on the technical specifications and hardware components of the upcoming PS5 last week, the company also updated the official website the next-gen console.
PS5: Release window confirmed
The previously announced launch period is now confirmed again on the updated website. The PlayStation 5 should therefore be available in stores from Christmas 2020.
In addition to the confirmed launch window for the PS5, Sony mentions on the site the freshly confirmed technical details that were presented by system lead architect Mark Cerny last week. These should “make the PlayStation 5 such an innovative and powerful platform”. In detail it says:
“We started to reveal more details about the technical and hardware components that make the PlayStation 5 such an innovative and powerful platform: the ultra-fast SSD, the integrated, custom I / O system, the custom-made AMD GPU with ray tracing and the special, immersive 3D audio.
With these features, the PS5 enables developers to let their creativity run free and to create extensive worlds and completely new gaming experiences for the games they develop. ”
Over the past few weeks, experts and analysts have repeatedly voiced their fears that the corona virus (COVID-19) could cause delays in the production of hardware and games, with which the planned launch window is shaken.
According to the latest statements from Sony and Microsoft, Christmas is still set for the next-gen consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X as the release period. However, the companies have not yet made a public commitment to the price of PS5 and Xbox Series X. It is currently speculated that the PS5 might have a slightly lower price in mind than the Xbox Series X.
