For the 15th year in a row, the military organization pays attention to Coming Out Day. Not only does the flag fly with rainbow colors at the ministry and other military locations. The runner in the same colors has also been rolled out for the Hague department. Defense authorities did this together with board members of the Defense LGBTI+ network.

The rainbow colors are the powerful symbol of acceptance and connection. Defense shows that it strives for an inclusive organization every year on October 11. One where everyone can feel at home and be themselves, with room for their own identity.
Defense is committed to peace and security worldwide. Previous research has shown that broadly composed teams usually achieve the best results in complex and uncertain situations. Defense also wants to be an employer that offers everyone equal opportunities, where there is no room for discrimination or exclusion. This way everyone can get the best out of themselves. This benefits a team and therefore the organization.

Seen, heard and respected
The rainbow runner symbolizes the path that defense takes. A path to an open, safe and supportive work environment. A place where everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, is seen, heard and respected.
Defense is on the right track, but there is still a long way to go.
In that respect, the Defense LGBTI+ network is still not an unnecessary luxury. It has been committed to improving the working and living environment for LGBT+ soldiers and their civilian colleagues since 1987.
The SHK advises the Defense Top, organizes conferences and even plays an international pioneering role.
