Comilog suspends manganese production – Journal du Gabon

The general director of the Ogooué Mining Company announced, through a press release published on October 15, that manganese production has been suspended in Gabon.

This decision by DG Léod Paul Batolo will cover a period of three (3 weeks), due to the closure of the manganese market at global level. In fact, the director’s press release explains that “The sharp decrease in steel production in China has led to a decrease in the purchase of manganese ore by Chinese producers, which has led to a sharp drop in prices, ie the price has been cut in half in just three (3) months”.

And to add : “Transportation and boarding operations will continue to operate with the stock position. The list of representatives and partners affected by this decision will be established by the Comilog Management Committee and will be notified as soon as possible, as well as the system used during this period.emphasizes Léod Paul Batolo who reassures him “no measures are expected to affect jobs at this time”.

Note that manganese is Gabon’s second largest export product, representing nearly 11% of its global sales. Ogooué Mining Company (Comilog), a subsidiary of Eramet based in France, is the largest producer (extraction and processing) of manganese ore in Gabon and in the world.
