In addition to the usual review, we have introduced the sunglasses-type AR device “Nreal Air” by connecting it to an iOS device using a special adapter and connecting it to the portable game console “Steam Deck”. I also came up with a new way to use it, so I’ll introduce it.
Nreal Air is an AR glass that has a half-mirror on the inside and can display images projected downward from the frame overlaid on the real world seen from the glasses. In mirroring display mode, you can display a 130-inch screen up to 4 meters in virtual space. Equipped with a USB Type-C port on the left temple (vine), by connecting a smartphone that supports DP ALT (Display Port Alternate mode) output of the USB-C terminal with the included USB cable, you can enjoy videos and games on your smartphone. Content can be enjoyed on the big screen.
Speakers are installed on the left and right temples, and you can play the sound in your ears, but in fact, this Nreal Air also has a microphone on the temple. In other words, the external display, speaker, and microphone are integrated in the form of sunglasses.
At first, I thought, “I might be able to use it for an online meeting…”, but since it takes a little courage to participate in a meeting wearing sunglasses, I thought it could be used for live streaming. I usually stream live from my laptop, but if I connect my smartphone to Nreal Air and stream, I should be able to create a live stream environment that is compact but has a large screen and excellent sound quality.
Attach your smartphone to a smartphone tripod and connect it to Nreal Air to create a live streaming environment.
Instead of shooting with the front camera and previewing on the small screen of the smartphone, the point is that you can preview on the large screen while shooting with the main camera on the back. The screen displayed on the smartphone is displayed on the large screen in front of you, making it easier to check the details of the comments and the video being distributed.
Since power is supplied to Nreal Air while streaming, the battery of the smartphone will decrease quickly, but if you use the adapter “Nubia RedMagic Gaming Dock” that can output DP ALT video while supplying power with USB-C input, Live streaming is possible while charging your smartphone. I bought it on the overseas direct sales site “Nubiamart”, but unfortunately it seems that it is out of stock at the time of writing. “AliExpress” seems to be still in stock.
