“A roast is an event where a guest of honor is “honored” by colleagues and acquaintances with jokes about himself that are sometimes very rude, insulting his life or his ‘ criticism of swear words.” – Wikipedia
In comedy circles, this led to what is known as a “Roast Battle“. Actors compete against each other and try to get one over the other verbally, but still in a friendly way. Cabaret artist and comedian Niko Nagl adapted this concept and brought it to Austria in 2017.
So that the audience can get an idea of the people who perform and laugh especially with mercy at the roast, all the acts of the Comedy Roast appear in the first half and play the their most personal comedy numbers.
In the second half it is called “Battle Royale” and the audience decides who finished their competitors in the most exciting way.
