Charly Hübner pulls out all the stops as a video game designer

Micha, portrayed by Charly Hübner, who once again pulls out all the stops of his acting skills, designed a successful video game, made a lot of money with it and enjoyed the expensive life in the Berlin hipster scene. Now he wants to transform his parents’ dilapidated guesthouse in his home village in Saxony-Anhalt into a luxury oasis. The problem is: There is no water for the planned wellness resort, nor for the residents of Klein-Schappleben, where there is a crisis meeting chaired by the local politician:

“I really pulled out all the stops.”
“Moni, before you keep making jokes and saying stuff, the water tank is of no use to me at all. So if I don’t actually have water in a few days, then I can cull my herd and then you all won’t have anything to eat .”
“I know Bernd, we all have a problem.” Movie scene

“Micha thinks big”: worlds collide

Micha wants to turn his parents’ dilapidated former hotel into a luxury hotel.

This problem is real, especially in the area in Saxony-Anhalt where Lars Jessen and his team filmed and researched – which wasn’t so easy at first, the director remembers: “I felt a great fear that we as film people “We come there and – to put it plainly – screw people over. That’s why we needed a certain amount of time to build up trust. That quickly turned into a great affection and a collegial way of dealing with one another.”

The entire political spectrum is represented in the film village: the AfD farmer, the eco-shepherd, the left-wing masseuse, and they are all somehow at odds with each other. Micha’s appeals to a sense of community are pretty much in vain and worlds collide.

Dominant main characters – pale supporting characters

The joy of acting can be seen in the main actors, especially Charly Hübner, Peter Kurth and Jördis Triebel. But they then dominate the scenery – the secondary characters remain pale. The dry humor also comes across well, and it’s not easy to present such an important topic easily and without pointing a moral finger.

For Lars Jessen, “Micah thinks big” is a political statement, but what is most important to him is: “Humor in times of conflicts that have escalated completely. If we manage to bring a little more calm and humor back into it, the social discussion will , the debate might be a little more relaxed and then more focused on the problems, but on the solution.”

“Micha thinks big” is a production by Florida Film for ARD Degeto Film and MDR.
