“If we manage to let the spectators forget and laugh at this difficult time, I will believe that our main task has been fulfilled,” said G. Silakaktins.
The show took place in the winter, when the troupe played in an empty hall. “It was not easy, because the main task of the comedy is the reaction of the audience. Without them, it is harder for actors to play and live in this genre, ”the director explained.
Eight months elapsed between rehearsals, during which some nuances of the play changed. “I was surprised at how quickly the actors managed to learn the text again. It didn’t even seem that he would have forgotten. This genre requires quick thinking, a good sense of humor and an accurate sense of time. The actors of Liepāja Theater manage it well, ”he assessed.
“We forget the gloomy covid thing, we just laugh, we get in a good mood,” the director called.
The play “How the Other Side Loves” was written by the British playwright Elen Eikborn 60 years ago, but its relevance has not disappeared. The director has also decided to preserve the aesthetics of that time, rather than relocating the action to an environment closer to today. The story revolves around the daily lives of three couples and him cabinets. The characters get into unusual situations, followed by unpleasant discoveries, various reactions, witty dialogues and various grimaces and features of love.
In the show, Sandis Pois portrays Bob, who himself is called a punch guy. “Bob is cozy and frivolous. Maybe more than I should. There are several women, but how do I know that the other one is not real? As the foot glides, it is a slippery time. Who won’t happen? There are people who are as slippery as soapy and karma cannot catch them. Bob is caught, but he always slips from both his wife and the clutches of karma. He is in the process, living to be comfortable, ”the actor described his image.
Laura Jeruma has taken on the role of the leisurely Mary. “My husband William plays a key role in our family. I am under him, various misunderstandings arise. We go to dinner with other families, and this is the first time he has ever taken Mary with him. He hid his wife from the public eye, but it is a comedy, everything is very fun and interesting, ”she said.
“It simply came to our notice then. I can really play and beat. The genre of comedy in general requires a slightly different style of play than, for example, in real psychology. So it’s very interesting and I really enjoy it, “the actress said.
Leons Leščinskis, Karīna Tatarinova, Anete Berķe and Rolands Beķeris, as well as Madara Viļčuka, Agnija Dreimane, Artūrs Irbe, Kārlis Artejevs also take part in the production.
Together with the directors, the performance was also created by scenographer Mārtiņš Vilkārsis, costume designer Jurate Silakaktina, choreographer Inga Krasovska, lighting artist Mārtiņš Feldmanis, and musical design by Zane Dombrovska. The play was translated from English by Kārina Pētersone.
