Comedian Johan Goossens nominated for Annie MG Schmidt Prize | Music

Johan Goossens is one of six contenders this year for the Annie MG Schmidt Prize, the award for the most impressive Dutch theater song of the year.

The comedian has been nominated with the song notefrom his theatrical performance Small Pains. This was announced on Saturday in the NPO Radio 1 program The Language State.

The Musketeers, consisting of Bertolf Lentink, Paul de Munnik, Daniël Lohues and Paskal Jakobsen, are also among the contenders, with the number Dark Passenger. Jan Beuving, Lisa Ostermann, Circus Treurdier and Flip Noorman were also nominated.

Jurrian van Dongen, chairman of the jury, says that the selection is again “one of extremes” this year. “Subdued cabaret next to provocative theater pop. Songs with enough drama of their own and songs written as part of a larger dramatic whole (…) Also this year the heavy subjects score best. But for the good listener there are enough witty passages to be found. Not a big laugh, more the grin of irony and understatement.”

The Annie MG Schmidt Prize has been awarded since 1991 by the Amsterdams Kleinkunst Festival and Buma Cultuur to the lyricist, composer or performer of the best theater song of the previous year. The prize consists of a bronze bust made by Frank Rosen and 3,500 euros.
