Comedian Barry Humphries died on Saturday at the age of 89. The Australian became world famous thanks to his alter ego Dame Edna. He died from a fall in February.
Australian media including The Sydney Morning Herald, report the news. Humphries had fallen in February and therefore needed surgery. He suffered from complications after his hip surgery. He was admitted to hospital on Wednesday.
The Australian invented Edna Everage in 1955 and conquered the whole world with it. In 1974, Edna awarded herself the title Dame (the feminine form of the knightly Sir).
Leaders from all walks of life were happy to be guests in the talk shows of the Dame. Dame Edna was known for her satire, lilac hair and extravagant glasses. She had a number of talk shows of her own. The English Queen Elizabeth II was her most famous fan.
Humphries also provided voices for many animated films. For example, he was the vegetarian shark Bruce in the Pixar classic Finding Nemo from 2003.
