Comeback Guust Flater uncertain: daughter of artist Franquin wants to prevent the publication of a new album through the courts

Daughter Franquin has gone to the court of first instance in Brussels to prevent the new comic strip about Guust Flater from being published. According to publishing house Dupuis, however, there was an agreement about this with the heirs of the late draftsman Franquin. The title of the new strip was also announced, “Flater strikes again!”. It would be in stores on October 19.

But according to daughter Franquin, her father’s only heiress, these plans are not in line with the last will of artist André Franquin, who died in 1997. She calls the new strip “illegal”, because father Franquin would have expressed the wish before his death that no new albums by Guust Flater would appear.

She is now asking the Brussels court for an urgent and provisional suspension of publication or advertising around the comic album. Pre-publications of new Guust Flater drawings in the French-language comic weekly magazine Spirou are also temporarily prohibited, until a verdict is reached. The case will be heard in May.
