Jakarta –
Petr Cech returned from retirement and appeared on the gridiron again as a goalkeeper for the first time. Cech defended Chelsea U-23 at the London derby.
Petr Cech made his first appearance since retiring as Arsenal goalkeeper in May 2019. The 38-year-old goalkeeper defended Chelsea U-23 in a 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur U-23.
The man who now serves as Chelsea’s technical director and performance this season has been training with the senior team. He even had time to be included in the Chelsea squad at Premier League as an emergency goalkeeper last September.
Comeback from retirement, Cech got off to a bad start when he conceded straight away when the game at Kingsmeadow Stadium had only been three minutes away. His first touch led to a header that finally broke the Chelsea U-23 goal, with Jubril Okedina the goal scorer for Tottenham U-23.
In the 18th minute, Cech’s goal was again entered this time by a header from Dane Scarlett. Chelsea bounced back in the second half, with two goals in two minutes from Myles Peart-Harris and Marcel Lewis getting the momentum going.
The match got hotter when each team had to play with 10 people. That was after 16-year-old Tottenham player Alfie Devine slammed Danny Drinkwater, and Drinkwater went into action by kicking his opponent.
Chelsea emerged victorious after Peart-Harris scored the decisive goal in the 88th minute. Cech’s debut on his return from retirement was marked by a victory.
Petr Cech strengthening Chelsea for 11 years, won 13 trophies including four titles Premier League and a Champions League title.
