Once again, a zoo in China was accused of animal abuse after admitting that The panda bears on display were actually Chow Chow dogs that had been painted black and white.

The Shanwei City Zoo would have continued to present the animals as a strange “unique breed” had it not been for some visitors noticed strange behavior among the animals and they recorded them barking, which finally ended up confirming that “pandas” were dogs.
“We use natural dye on dogs, since they have long fur. We saw the idea of painting the dogs to look like pandas on the internet“, explained a zoo spokesperson to local media.

The zoo added that, since they did not have pandas, they chose to paint chow chow like part of an attempt to “increase the fun” and generate greater interest in the place.
It’s not the first time
This is not the first time a Chinese zoo has painted dogs to look like pandas. A similar event occurred last May when the Taizhou City Zoo admitted that They painted dogs to make them look like pandas, since they did not have this species on display.
These situations show that this deceptive practice is becoming more common than it seems in some zoos that profess to protect the animals in their care.
