French university championship in Ceyrat

Eight students from Rouen (two women and six men) traveled to Ceyrat, near Clermont-Ferrand, for the French university wrestling and sambo championships. For those who don’t know, sambo is a martial art born in the USSR in the 1930s mixing judo, boxing and wrestling. In this sport, only Theo Vannier brought back a medal, that of bronze. But in wrestling, the harvest was more beautiful. Theo Vannier doubles repeats his great performance in sambo with a second place in less than 95 kilos. Tom Lemasson also brought home the silver in under 75 kilos, while Valentin Marcotte finished third in under 85 kilos. But the best performance is to be credited to Lara Normal who won gold and the title of French university champion in over 70 kilos.

In the university rankings, men finish second and women fourth. This allows the URN to climb on the third step of the podium in the general ranking of universities.

By overwhelmingly winning 52-11 against Angers, the women’s handball team brilliantly qualified for the French university championship which will take place in Bayonne from 6 to 8 June.

For its part, the men’s team ended its journey in the semi-finals of the center-west inter-league championship, losing by one point (33-32) against Le Mans. The team will not go to the French championship.

Regional championship in Elbeuf

After having shone in bouldering, several climbers from Rouen repeated their fine performances during the regional climbing championship, difficulty category. Rouen students tackled the swimming hour record. Dozens of swimmers were present and took turns. In the end, the men covered 6462.5 meters while the women completed 5425 meters.
